Ensuring Our Mission

Status Update

We currently have pledges of $130,000 toward our goal of $150,000 for this 3 year fundraising campaign. We have received $47,600 in contributions to date. This will allow us to proceed near term with much needed maintenance of our physical plant that includes replacement of narthex window frames and exterior painting of the building. We thank you for your continued support.

Calling All Graduates!

Please let us know the names of our graduating seniors from high school, college, or graduate school. We would like to know from where they are graduating, where they are going, what they're planning to do, and anything else they'd like to share. Please leave the information in the office or in the Congregational Care box. Thanks!

IMPACT Celebration and Support Drive Kick-Off

IMPACT will celebrate its 2007-2008 achievements on Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m. in the parish hall of Incarnation Catholic Church on Hillsdale Drive. This will be a less formal event than the three annual meetings and will feature several musical groups and provide an opportunity to meet IMPACT participants from other congregations. Plan to attend.

Both City Council and the Board of Supervisors have now adopted their budgets for the coming fiscal years. Although the city budget includes the $500,000 requested by IMPACT for affordable housing, the Supervisors did not agree to this proposal. A reserve fund of $400,000 was established that may serve to fund affordable housing initiatives. The IMPACT Affordable Housing Committee will follow the progress of the joint City-County-UVA Task Force on affordable housing. Planning for the establishment of a paid dental staff and providing adult, as well as children’s dental care at the Charlottesville Free Clinic is proceeding.

The May 15 Celebration will also serve to kick-off the Support Drive. The Support Drive will seek both individual and business investment in the work of IMPACT. IMPACT is supported financially by the participating congregations, grants and by the local community. St. Mark provides “in-kind” support through the IMPACT office. Please consider a personal investment in the work of IMPACT. Members of the IMPACT team can provide further information.

WELCA - Circle I

Circle I will meet at 10 AM on May 13th at the home of Charlotte Owen; 3249 Sandown Park Road, Keswick. If you need directions, please call Charlotte at 963-4784. Following the business meeting, we will have a program discussing the gifts and talents which God has given each of us, and how we might use them to serve God’s people. (Romans 12:4-8). We will also enjoy refreshments and fellowship. Please bring to the meeting any “sample size” toiletries that you may have and we will keep these for the women of Pacem when they are next hosted by the St. Mark congregation.

So—mark your calendars for this date and be thinking about your God-given gifts. We welcome all women of St. Mark to join us.

From the Preschool

May is our very last month at the preschool. We appreciate the wonderful yard that we have as the weather improves. The children love watching all the plants come up (even though many are weeds).

Our farm trip is such a wonderful highlight of the month. Sally and Mark Tueting make us feel very welcome, and we all learn a lot about farming.

Our end of year activities take place on the last two days of school. The children sing for parents, and then we all have a goodbye picnic.

Many friends will be back in the fall, and some will not, so we make sure to invite everyone back to visit when they can. We hope that people will come back to see us.

A special thank you to Chris Williamson for donating one of the new exit lights for the church, and for his work in installing them all in the preschool as well.
