Women's Book Club
Our May selection is from the non-fiction genre: Three Cups of Tea written by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. Greg becomes separated from his guide while returning from attempting to summit the mountain K2 in the Himalayas (not the place you want to be lost!) and finds himself in a remote village.
The compassionate care he receives turns his life around and the book follows his trials and successes as he builds schools for the boys and girls in the remote villages in Pakistan. An amazing and inspiring story about what one person can do.
Join us on May 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Room to discuss this book. If you have questions or need a ride you can call Linda Schomaker at 977-4619.
Prayer Quilt & Shawl Ministry
Our ministry continues to grow. We have provided quilts to Phyllis Johnson and Robert Scharlemann and shawls
to Lashyra Granitz and Patty Marbury. Our
quilts, shawls and prayers continue to comfort
those who receive them. If you know someone
who you think would like to receive a quilt
or shawl, please let me know. The knitting
class continues under the able instruction
of Laurel McClurken. If anyone needs yarn,
patterns or needles, please see me after
church or contact me via email or phone. We have supplies at church. I am hoping that we can have a quilt- making workshop before summer is upon us.
Social Ministry Awareness

The second Sunday of each month has been designated for Social Ministry Awareness. On that day, you’ll find information of the Ministry of the Month in the narthex that goes beyond our usual markings or announcements. Bring your questions and your helping hands.
The Social Ministry of the Month for May is the Salvation Army!
Three Sundays a month, teams
from the St. Mark congregation
reach out to our brothers and sisters
by preparing and serving dinner at
the Salvation Army shelter on 4th Street.
We are not culinary experts or food service veterans, but from 4:30-6:00 pm we are disciples of Christ called to dish up casseroles, stews (and maybe the occasional hot dog) with relish. If you feel called to share God’s love by sharing a meal, or would just like to know more about the experience, please see Juli Sherwood (de facto team coordinator) at the information table in the narthex after the service on May 11. Food is love!
Also, don't forget to join the St. Mark team participating in "Relay for Life" to raise money and awareness for cancer. Walk the track, purchase a luminary or just come out to enjoy the day. The event will be held Saturday, May 10 to Sunday, May 11 at "The Park" near Darden.
For more details, call Jennifer Giacalone at 973-2353 or go to www.cvillerelayforlife.org.
Please remember to bring items to donate to the Food Bank each week. The basket is in the narthex, and a member drops the items off on her way to work. They need non-perishable things like Spam, macaroni and cheese, cereals, canned fruits and vegetables, and soups. In this way, we can help people in our own community who are less fortunate than ourselves!
